Blair

Blair was Her Majesty's Prime Minister and the supremely bad one having done more to destroy liberty than any other. He is however effective. So was Adolf but it was not remembered to his credit. Here are some essays on Blair and his works.

“And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that. All power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Lord Acton misquoted on Politics

Blair, Treason And Communists [ 20 November 2009 ]
QUOTE
On the whole, however, the communist infiltration of the T&G is hardly a joking matter: its influence in the Labour party was substantial. The decision to give Gordon Brown his first and only safe seat, Dunfermline East, was made by two T&G officials: Hugh Wyper, the regional boss and a Communist Party member, and Alec Kitson. This is not exceptional. Neil Kinnock, Tony Blair, Margaret Beckett, Harriet Harman, John Reid — to name just a few — were all T&G people who made their Labour party careers thanks to the union’s backing. And at that time, of course, T&G political backing was within the gift of Alec Kitson. Chernyaev only saw part of the story however. Other documents, still secret, show Labour’s Soviet relationships ran still deeper.

Blair Is Big On Tax Evasion Avoidance
QUOTE
AN ILL WIND-RUSH
No WONDER so many Premiership footballers are using imaginative schemes to sidestep millions of pounds in tax - they're getting their inspiration from the top.

Accounts for Tony Blair's secretive Windrush web of limited partnership, limited liability partnership (a Blair-era creation) and limited companies show the last financial year was a good one for the former prime minister.

The income Blair earns from his many speeches and consultancy gigs goes through Windrush Ventures NO.3 LP (of which "The Office of Tony Blair" is a trading name). How much can't be known, since limited partnerships conveniently don't have to file accounts. But accounts for a separate entity, Windrush Ventures NO.2 LLP, show that in 2009/10 it received £5.152m for "management services" provided to Windrush Ventures NO.3 LP. Precisely this amount was then paid on by the LLP to a company, Windrush Ventures Ltd, again for "management services". As a "small company" it doesn't have to say what it does with the money.

Whether in reality the first legal entity is managed by the second, and the latter itself is managed by the third, or whether this is mere paper shuffling, is open to speculation. But the effect is that nobody knows precisely what Blair's income is, while a large part of it enjoys not just secrecy but limited liability and more favourable corporate taxation.

Blair's Old Woman And Corruption
QUOTE
The case of Cherie Blair provides a grotesque illustration of the attitudes and practices of the new Political Class. The Prime Minister's wife manifested a new morality in the heart of government, namely that it was acceptable to use the highest office as a method of personal enrichment............

In June 2005 she was paid some £30,000 to be interviewed before an audience by the CNN anchorwoman Paula Zahn, while Tony Blair was on an official visit to the White House. Sir David Manning, British ambassador to Washington and seemingly willing to stretch any point well beyond the cause of duty as far as Tony and Cherie Blair were concerned, made a warm-up speech............

Mrs Blair's behaviour on this occasion nevertheless stretched the tolerance of the Prime Minister's civil service advisers past breaking point. She was strongly advised in advance not to take up this engagement by Cabinet Secretary Andrew Turnbull.

Turnbull urged her not to embark on the undertaking at all, adding that, if she did insist on going ahead, she should donate her fee to charity. Cherie ignored this advice, saying: "Maybe we should not have done this, but we are in too deep."

Mrs Blair's speaking tour of Australia at the start of 2005 was another notable infraction. She agreed to make a series of speeches, one to raise funds for the Children's Cancer Institute Australia, a research charity.

Blair by Sean Gabb
QUOTE
In part, I say this without irony. Tony Blair is not merely a bad Prime Minister - he is also a profoundly bad man. He is driven by a hatred of England and its people. He is a liar, a traitor, a war monger. He has the blood of thousands on his hands. Not since the time of James II have we had a government directed so plainly to the abolition of our liberties. At no time in our history has an attack on these liberties been so sustained or so successful. So far as he opposes the continual forward drive of the Blair Government, and so far as he might be able to replace it, I welcome the election of Mr Cameron. This is not saying much. Let it be granted that they might combine, and that they might also be able to beat Mr Blair, I should probably welcome a coalition of George Galloway, Abu Hamza and Nick Griffin. The most important short term objective of anyone who cares about England must be to pull down Tony Blair and to execrate his memory.

Impeach Blair Campaign

The War - Won but not Over
QUOTE
Until Saturday, I was willing to believe that such weapons would be “found” by the Americans. They had the means, motive and opportunity for planting them. But the surrender of Amir Hamudi Hasan al-Sadi has complicated any such plan. He was the chief weapons adviser to the Iraqi Government. Before the war, he had repeatedly denied that his country had any of the weapons it was alleged to have. He helped reveal the report on Iraqi weapons published by the British Government as a mass of lies—and often of plagiarized and obsolete lies. For his own safety, it was in his interest, once the war was over, to confess that he had been lying, and to validate all American claims. In fact, he called a news conference before surrendering and repeated his earlier denials: “I was knowledgeable about these programmes” he said. “I never told anything but the truth and time will bear me out”. Bearing in mind how little shame the present Government of America has about torturing prisoners of war, it will be interesting to see how long Mr al-Sudi maintains this insistence. But no amount of retraction will now be believed. There were no “weapons of mass destruction”. There was no danger to this country. We were lied into this war.

Foot and mouth 'has cost £20 billion in lost business' [ 6 December 2008 ]
QUOTE
Last Updated: 9:57AM BST 20 Jul 2001
FOOT and mouth has cost the economy £20 billion and the figure could double if the epidemic drags on until July, the Institute of Directors said yesterday. It was the institute's bleakest assessment yet, as cases of the disease rose by 15 to 1,400. But Prof David King, the Government's chief scientist, pronounced the epidemic "fully under control" [ Fool or rogue? Pass. Wrong at all events - Editor ]. He said there had been a significant drop in the daily number of cases over the past two weeks and forecast that this would be down to one or two a day by the likely date of the election on June 7. Leading vets and farmers' leaders disagree. They expect the epidemic to last far beyond July and perhaps until the end of the year. The institute, which represents 54,000 businesses, said the Government faced a huge demand for assistance across a wide spectrum of industry and commerce.

Blair And The £4 Billion Gas Deal [ 2 November 2009 ]
QUOTE
Gas from Gaza, mobile phones in Palestine and a $1m peace prize ...Tony Blair and the Middle Eastern Eldorado
July 25, 2003: In the middle of that blazing summer, Prime Minister Tony Blair sat at his desk in Downing Street to write to his counterpart in Israel, Ariel Sharon [ the well known mass murderer - Editor ]........ Yet the rest of his cordial letter said nothing about peace or politics. Instead, it was concerned solely with business - a plea to Sharon to let a British Gas-led consortium start work in a vast natural gas field off the coast of the Palestinian Gaza Strip, a deal worth at least £4billion.

Blair, Corruption And War Crime [ 28 January 2010 ]
QUOTE
Why has this been put in writing?
Such was the shocking question asked by Downing Street when the chief lawyer at the Foreign Office warned Tony Blair's government of the consequences of going to war in Iraq without legal authority. With those seven damning words of his evidence to the Chilcot inquiry, Sir Michael Wood throws back the curtain on the secrecy, impropriety and deceit that surrounded Mr Blair's decision to send British troops to their deaths. Yesterday's testimony is the most devastating yet in an inquiry that has already established how the great state institutions were subverted to satisfy one man's determination to go to war.

Blair, The War Criminal Has A Price On His Head [ 27 January 2010 ]
QUOTE
The only question that counts is the one that the Chilcot inquiry won't address: was the war with Iraq illegal? If the answer is yes, everything changes. The war is no longer a political matter, but a criminal one, and those who commissioned it should be committed for trial for what the Nuremberg tribunal called "the supreme international crime": the crime of aggression...........

Others have explored it, however. Two weeks ago a Dutch inquiry, led by a former supreme court judge, found that the invasion had "no sound mandate in international law". Last month Lord Steyn, a former law lord, said that "in the absence of a second UN resolution authorizing invasion, it was illegal". In November Lord Bingham, the former lord chief justice, stated that, without the blessing of the UN, the Iraq war was "a serious violation of international law and the rule of law".......... We also know that the UK government was aware that the war it intended to launch was illegal......

There are two problems. The first is that neither the government nor the opposition has any interest in pursuing these crimes, for the obvious reason that in doing so they would expose themselves to prosecution. The second is that the required legal mechanisms don't yet exist. The governments that ratified the Rome statute have been filibustering furiously to delay the point at which the crime can be prosecuted by the ICC: after eight years of discussions, the necessary provision still has not been adopted........ So today I am launching a website – www.arrestblair.org – whose purpose is to raise money as a reward for people attempting a peaceful citizen's arrest of the former prime minister. I have put up the first £100, and I encourage you to match it.

Blair Lied About Iraq Threat [ 14 July 2010 ]
QUOTE
Tony Blair's government "intentionally and substantially" exaggerated assessments of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction culminating in highly misleading statements about the threat that amounted to lies, the inquiry into the war in Iraq was told today

Carne Ross, a British diplomat to the UN who was responsible for Iraq in the runup to the invasion, said intelligence was "massaged" into "more robust and terrifying" statements about Saddam's supposed WMD. In evidence to the Chilcot inquiry, which heard that the Foreign Office had objected to the release of documents that he wanted to disclose, Ross said: "This process of exaggeration was gradual and proceeded by accretion and editing from document to document, in a way that allowed those participating to convince themselves that they were not engaged in blatant dishonesty." He added: "But this process led to highly misleading statements about the UK assessment of the Iraqi threat that were, in their totality, lies."

Blair Is A Light Fingered Rogue [ 9 May 2011 ]
QUOTE
TONY Blair received £400,000 from a fund for disadvantaged children to set up an office in a five-star hotel. Prime Minister David Cameron revealed the money came from the Department for International Development (DfID) and is meant to fund humanitarian work in developing countries.

But it was spent on rooms at the exclusive American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem, where Mr Blair spends one week a month in his role as peace envoy to the Middle East. The 19th century hotel near the old city of Jerusalem is one of the most exclusive in Israel. A suite costs £550 a night. The cash was paid in 2007 as Britain’s contribution to Mr Blair’s work representing the EU, America, Russia and the United Nations.

Blair Might Be Held To Account By Chilcot Regarding Murderous Invasion Of Iraq [ 1 August 2011 ]
QUOTE
Tony Blair is to face scathing criticism from the official inquiry into the Iraq War for the role he played in leading Britain into one of its biggest foreign policy fiascos in modern history.

The Mail on Sunday has been told that the former Prime Minister will be held to account on four main failings:

  • Bogus claims that were made about Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.

  • Not telling the British public about his secret pledge with George Bush to go to war.

  • Keeping the Cabinet in the dark by his ‘sofa government’ style.

  • Failing to plan to avoid the post-war chaos in Iraq.

Well-placed sources say the reputations of Mr Blair and key allies will suffer major damage when the report by Sir John Chilcot’s Iraq War inquiry is published this autumn. Mr Blair, former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and ex-Downing Street spin doctor Alastair Campbell are all expected to be criticized.........

A total of 179 British soldiers died in Iraq while estimates for the number of Iraqi dead vary from 100,000 to 650,000.

Blair Convicted In Absentia. Blair Is A War Criminal [ 25 November 2011 ]
QUOTE
Those who lobbied to have George W. Bush and Tony Blair tried for their role in the Iraq War have finally got their wish. Though the verdict of the court carries no legal weight, its supporters believe its symbolic value is beyond doubt. The court in Malaysia where the trial took place may not have the power to convict, but the verdict against the former British and American leaders was unanimous.

“War criminals have to be dealt with – convict Bush and Blair as charged. A guilty verdict will serve as a notice to the world that war criminals may run but can never ultimately hide from truth and justice,”
the statement from the Perdana Global Peace Foundation read.

The foundation was set up by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad [ a rather sound sort of chap - Editor ], who was always a staunch opponent of the war against the regime of Saddam Hussain in 2003. He previously branded Blair and Bush “child-killers”..........

“The evidence showed that the drums of war were being beaten long before the invasion. The accused in their own memoirs have admitted their intention to invade Iraq regardless of international law,” said the tribunal..... Meanwhile, Donald Rumsfeld, the US Secretary of Defence during the Iraq War, is next on the list to have his case heard by the mock court.
UNQUOTE
The court convicted. It cannot sentence sad to say. The Main Stream Media do what they so often do, hide the truth. Given that Doctor Mohamad is a lawyer it is entirely likely that they acted properly in considering the evidence.

Blair Claimed WMD Just An Excuse For Invading Iraq [ 1 January 2012 ]
QUOTE
Tony Blair's stunning admission to the BBC that he would have invaded Iraq regardless of whether there had been Weapons of Mass Destruction revealed the true nature of the U.S -U.K military adventure in the Middle East. The ugly truth behind the political charade was that the decision to remove Saddam Hussein had been made behind closed doors before any evidence had been gathered.

Blair told Fern Britton that if he had known there were no WMDs he would have still favored military force: "I would still have thought it right to remove him [Saddam Hussein]" he said. "I mean obviously you would have had to use and deploy different arguments about the nature of the threat."

And that is exactly what Blair did, only it was after the invasion. Once the illusion that Saddam presented a serious threat to our security had vanished, the goal post was moved and the war was justified on the basis that Saddam was a bad man and had 'gassed his own people'. (Bush and Blair of course neglected to mention the fact that we supported Saddam during his worst years, and sold him the weapons he used to kill members of his own population).

Regardless, we now know that the war was not based on an external threat, but on the whims of Blair's personal feelings towards Saddam. And that means not only was the war illegal, but Blair criminally culpable for subverting the legal process and taking Britain to war without due cause. Article 51 of the U.N Charter states that countries may only use military force if they have been attacked ('the inherent right to self defense'), and Blair clearly violated that law when going to war with a nation that had not threatened the United Kingdom, or any of its neighbors for that matter.
UNQUOTE
