Blair and Impeachment

Issue of the Day - Impeaching Blair

Sadly, this one has turned out to be just another party political issue and the number of MPs willing to deal with the merits is correspondingly small. The Tories and Liberals have decided to let Blair get away with this one. Politics before principle. Perhaps Labour knows about  other matters which the Tories would rather did not to see the light of day.

Some MPs have decided to impeach Blair; that is to charge him with misconduct in order to get him dismissed. It is a Parliamentary requirement that anyone speaking does not intentionally mislead. Here is a quote from  Dan Plesch , Honorary Fellow of Birkbeck College , University of London:-:

“It is unheard for a minister to knowingly deceive Parliament and the public and to refuse to resign. Beverley Hughes and Peter Mandelson were forced to resign for misleading Parliament. Can the Prime Minister honestly say that his actions were less serious than those of Ms Hughes and Mr Mandelson?”

“Blair seriously misled and deceived the public over Iraq and there can be no greater offence for a Prime Minister. Impeachment is the only way to ensure that this Tony Blair doesn't get away with this.”

Perhaps you agree. Perhaps you do not. The two and half big parties do not seem to be taking much interest in it. This tells us something important about Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition to wit, who they are not opposing. You can see the case against him at:-

Here is one rather pungent example:-

Later this month [ December 2004 - Editor ] both Brighton and Oxford City Councils will debate whether to support impeachment. As the councillors explain, Tony Blair himself pointed out that law and order in our communities depends on people who break the rules being punished, and if the leader of the country can get away with it, then it is a license to every yob and bent official in the country.

Blair's inner circle
Albeit sans Mandelson; odd. But it is from the Grauniad, mouth piece of the Left.
